Carnbane League round-up

One of the most exciting Carnbane League games of the season was played at Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor, on Saturday, when Rostrevor Rovers hosted Bohemians in a Division One match.

Rostrevor, who were bottom of the league last season, have made a remarkable recovery following two early defeats and their narrow 5-4 win over visiting Bohemians, has put them at the top of the table on goal average.

Bohemians made a dream start to the game when Dan Barfield gave them the lead inside three minutes and when Conor Murphy made it 2-0 after five minutes, it looked as if Rostrevor were in for a hiding.  Sean Gorman pulled back a goal in the 12th minute. Felix Flynn levelled for Bohemians before  Sammy McGrath restored Rostrevor’s lead just before the interval .

Four minutes into the second half, Damian Smyth equalised for Bohemians.

Both sides went all-out on the attack and it was Dan Barfield who struck to give Bohemians a 4-3 lead  in the 75th minute. However, Sean Fearon equalised for Rostrevor three minutes later and he was on hand to notch the winning goal in the dying minutes to give the Rovers a great victory.

Meanwhile, three of the four quarter-final ties in the Kehoe Cars Bessbrook Cup were played and there were no surprise results with Orchard defeating Cartwheel United of Crossmaglen 4-0, Bessbrook United defeating Ashgrove Rovers 4-0 and Windmill Stars defeating Killowen Celtic 4-2.

In the Premier Division Championship, Finn Harps notched their first win of the season when they defeated local rivals Crieve Rovers 4-1, while Cleary Celtic moved up the table with a comfortable 4-0 win over Villa Rovers. Whitecross and Killeavy United also recorded good wins at the expense of North End Strollers and Woodside respectively.
