Down Area Winter Football League round-up, December 12

Published 13/12/2015

With pitches saturated, following the heavy rainfall during the week, there were only a handful of the scheduled games that managed to get played.

With no Premier Division matches surviving, our focus starts with Division 1, where Clonduff had the opportunity to maintain their 100% record and close the gap on current leaders Agape, who were scheduled for Sittlington Cup action, but they had to overcome a Ballygowan side, who were sitting in second position at the start of play.

In a closely-contested match, Clonduff ensured their 100% start was maintained following a 2-1 win, replacing Ballygowan in second position as a result, and closing Agape's lead to four points, with two games in hand. In the only other game played in the division, Ards Rangers III edged Queens Grads III in a seven-goal thriller 4-3, to move level on points with their opponents.

In Division 2A, Brentwood II moved up to second place following a resounding 6-2 win over reigning champions Moat Park Rangers II, and in the only other game played in the division, 3rd Bangor II edged a much-improved bottom club Comber Star II in a seven-goal thriller 4-3. In Division 2B, Comber YM II closed the gap on leaders Clonduff II to four points, following a comprehensive 6-0 home win against Queens Grads IV.
