NIFL Championship round-up, December 19
All the latest from Championship Two:
Queens University 4 PSNI 0
In the weekend's only Championship fixture, the first chance fell to PSNI, when Andrew Blackledge was sent through on the left wing and was denied by Queen’s keeper Declan Brown, who made an excellent save with his legs. Queen’s were on top and took the lead through Michael Allison, whose powerful shot from 20 yards flew past David Harrison and into the top corner. On the half hour mark, things got worse for PSNI, when Ashton McDermott was sent off for illegal use of the elbow. Just before the break, Queen’s missed a series of chances.
Queen’s domination continued early in the second half, and a good left wing cross by Matt Hughes was headed powerfully into the roof of the net by Patrick Stuart. Two minutes later, it was game over, when Stuart ran through the middle, onto a through-ball and shot home first time off the inside of the post. Ten minutes later, Mark Prenter was fouled in the box and he dispatched the resultant penalty with ease to complete the scoring.
