Gerry Goodall, Malachians

Nickname?

Gerry Good Ball.

Biggest triumph?

Scoring in the Steel & Sons Cup for Cromac Albion v Ballyclare Comrades in 1977. It was a 33-yard free kick, put us 3-0 up and we won 4-1.

Worst beating?

About 20 years ago, losing on penalties to Coagh United in the Clarence Cup semi-final. It was my first year in charge, and would have been our first final in years.

Best junior player ever?

David Dougan. He may have been the worst trainer ever, but he had so much skill.

“He’s only got one left foot.”

Favourite motto?

Hard work will always overcome talent.
