Thompson cannot rush comeback
Peter Thompson is facing another month on the sidelines as he recovers from his recent health scare.
It is almost three weeks since the former Linfield striker was rushed to hospital after suffering a collapsed lung during training with Stockport County, an illness which had started out as a chest infection.
After spending the weekend in hospital Thompson is now recuperating away from the training ground.
“It was scary at the time, but thankfully I’m feeling much better now,” said Thompson.
“The club doctor spoke to a specialist about the problem and he recommended that I don’t do any training at all until six weeks after my discharge from hospital.
“That means I can’t start doing anything until March 9.”
Thompson took advantage of his rest period to return home to Belfast at the weekend for a short break, but his journey was an unusual one.
“I can’t fly for six weeks as a precaution, so I had to come home on the boat, which was new to me,” he said.
By the time Thompson returns to training Stockport will have only 10 league games remaining.
