Under-fire Magilton in for a rough ride from Ipswich fans

Former Northern Ireland midfielder Jim Magilton could be in a for a rough ride from Ipswich fans tonight when his side host Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

A protest is planned by some supporters, who want Ipswich boss Magilton sacked.

Magilton was a huge favourite as a player at Portman Road and was a popular choice when he took over as boss in 2006.

Some Ipswich supporters, though, feel the club has no chance of progressing to the Premiership under the Belfast man even though if they beat Forest tonight, the East Anglian outfit will just be four points adrift of a play-off place.

Recent results for Town have actually been pretty good almost leading to Magilton being awarded the Championship manager of the month award for January.

It seems the players are behind the ex-Northern Ireland skipper.

Alex Bruce, son of Wigan boss Steve, said: “We’re not that far off from the play-offs, yet the manager has got people on his back which is ridiculous.”

Should Magilton leave Ipswich, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal that Glenn Hoddle could be in line as a long-term replacement with his old England number two John Gorman coming in on a short-term basis.
