Verner wants to finish off season on a high

Time is running out for Bangor to halt their alarming slide towards the bottom of the table.

Striker Marty Verner insists they are desperate to get their first win in 10 games today away to Newry in a bid to avoid a place at the bottom of the table, even though their fate has been decided.

"The last thing we want to do is finish inside the bottom two," Verner admits.

"We know that the club will be playing in the Championship next season, but we want to take some personal pride in ourselves and the club to make sure we stay clear of the bottom two.

"To be fair to Newry I think they have maybe been underachieving so far this season, I think when Gerry Flynn gets another season under his belt you'll see them getting it right."

Verner holds his hand up and admits it was a day to forget for the Seasiders on Tuesday when they were hammered 4-0 at Institute

"We conceded the first goal which was a cross which went straight in, but we were well in the game in the first half even though we didn't create a lot," he recalls.

"They got a goal early in the second half and it went badly downhill from there, for myself included because I missed a penalty."
