Warrenpoint Town boss Barry Gray blasted the match officials after his side kicked off their season with a 1-0 loss to Ballinamallard United.

Gray was fuming after Mark Clarke's debut dismissal in the second period following a tangle with Mallards' John Currie.

Clarke was shown a straight red card by referee Evan Boyce for appearing to kick out off the ball at the eventual matchwinner five minutes into the second half.

"The consistency in the refereeing was pathetic," blasted Gray. "Clarke, Liam Bagnall and Darren King get booked for their first tackles and Ballinamallard got away with one silly yellow card near the end where he's just trying to balance things up."

Currie got on the end of Michael McCrudden's lofted pass to produce a neat finish past Jonny Parr on 75 minutes.

United boss Whitey Anderson said: "It was all about getting the goal. When you have 11 playing against 10 you want to go on and win the game."
