Lisburn Distillery manager Paul Kirk is closing in on a deal to sign Crusaders midfielder Stephen Shaw before the closing of the transfer window.

Kirk has been given permission to speak to the former Linfield man and will try to complete the move before Friday's deadline.

More immediate in Kirk's thoughts is tonight's County Antrim Shield tie at home to Amateur League side East Belfast.

The Ballyskeagh boss is wary of the threat posed by the club that plays a stone's throw from his home, having suffered at the hands of lesser lights in the past.

"We've always had problems in the first round of this competition," said Kirk.

"We lost to Kilmore Rec and if you are flippant and the attitude isn't right you can slip-up very handily."
