Abdi signs new Watford contract

Watford midfielder Almen Abdi has signed a new three-year contract, the club have announced.

Abdi arrived at Vicarage Road from Udinese in 2012 and has scored 23 goals in 92 appearances for the Hornets.

The 28-year-old won Watford's 2012-13 player of the season award and was a key part in the club securing automatic promotion from the Championship last season.

Abdi initially joined the Hornets on a one-year loan and after an excellent debut campaign under Gianfranco Zola, the Swiss signed a permanent deal in July 2013.

The creative midfielder was sidelined for most of the following year with a recurring foot problem but returned to fitness last season as Watford sealed their place in the Barclays Premier League.

Abdi has played six times for Switzerland and his previous clubs include FC Zurich and Le Mans.
