Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam has announced he has signed a new contract.

The 29-year-old Scotland international, who penned a four-year deal when he joined the Potters from Liverpool in summer 2012, revealed the news on Twitter on Saturday lunchtime.

Adam posted: " Delighted to have signed a new contract with @stokecity."

Stoke announced that Adam had signed a one-year contract extension, tying him to the club until 2017, with the option of a further extension until the following year.

The midfielder enjoyed an impressive season under Mark Hughes last term, scoring seven times in 36 games, including a memorable strike from inside his own half against Chelsea.

Potters chief executive Tony Scholes said: "We are delighted that Charlie has decided to extend his stay with us. It's clear to see he's enjoying playing under the management of Mark Hughes and feels at home at the Britannia Stadium.

"Charlie is a big fans' favourite and I'm sure they will be pleased as we are that he is staying for at least another two years, if not longer."
