Adebayor £25m Manchester City move almost done

Published 17/07/2009

Manchester City hope to complete a £25m deal to sign striker Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal in the next 48 hours despite the move threatening to stall after delays in agreeing personal terms.

Talks have been ongoing since Arsenal accepted the bid from the Eastlands club on Tuesday but discussions over the Togo international's reputed £150,000-a-week wages took longer than expected after Adebayor asked for time to consider the offer.

It is believed that the former Monaco player had hoped to receive an offer from AC Milan, Chelsea or Manchester United, all of whom had previously expressed interest. City remain cautious over a timescale to complete the deal after several false dawns and sources at the club confirmed that they would consider other targets.
