Arsenal v Liverpool - ratings
Petr Cech: By far his best display in a Arsenal shirt as he stepped up to the plate with his main defenders missing in front of him. Denied Christian Benteke from close range and tipped Philippe Coutinho's strike onto the post. 9 (out of 10)
Hector Bellerin: Looked more nervous without the absent Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny alongside but still offers plenty going forward and never stops running. 6
Gabriel: The senior partner with Calum Chambers alongside, a couple of wobbles but steadied when Arsenal took control after the break. Booked. 6
Calum Chambers: A night to forget for the young England defender. Was run ragged by both Benteke and Coutinho in the first half and was guilty of gifting possession to Liverpool on more than on occasion. Would have been glad he was not under as much pressure in the second half. 4.
Nacho Monreal: Like Bellerin he appeared to be missing the influence of his usual defensive colleagues but went about his business diligently. 6.
Francis Coquelin: Always a safe bet at protecting his back four and was needed more than most other evenings with the new-look partnership behind him. A couple of great tackles broke up chances for Liverpool. 7.
Santi Cazorla: Captain for the night but was unable to create the types of chances his forwards could tuck away. 6.
Mesut Ozil: A quiet night from the German World Cup winner, one of those performances when Arsenal fans ask what it is he brings to the side - especially with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain only on the bench. 5.
Aaron Ramsey: Unlucky to see a first-half effort ruled out for offside and was involved in the majority of attacks Arsenal strung together in their vain search for a winner. 7.
Alexis Sanchez: Hit the post when played through by Cazorla but still not completely up to speed after a busy summer. 6
Olivier Giroud: Only one decent chance and Arsenal will continually be linked with other strikers if Giroud cannot score in the big games. Replaced by Walcott with just over 15 minutes to go. 6
Theo Walcott (for Giroud, 73): Not given long enough to make an impact as Liverpool sat deep and soaked up pressure as the game wore on. 5.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (for Coquelin, 82): Another late introduction and, like Walcott, was not given sufficient time to show what he can do but did test Simon Mignolet in stoppage time. 6.
Simon Mignolet: His saves may not have been as memorable as Cech's but a couple of smart stops kept Liverpool level. Booked. 7.
Nathaniel Clyne: Did not offer the usual sustained forward threat down the right but another good performance by the England man. 6.
Dejan Lovren: Settling into the Liverpool side after a shaky first season and although he was on the back foot for much of the second half he will be pleased to have kept another clean sheet. 6.
Martin Skrtel: Along with Lovren the pair have yet to concede a league goal this season, played Ramsey onside for the disallowed goal. Booked. 6.
Joe Gomez: Another confident display from the 18-year-old who has slotted straight into Liverpool's defence. Can offer plenty going forward. 7.
James Milner: Captain in the absence of Jordan Henderson and could have won it for Liverpool had his first-half volley not been kept out by Cech. 6.
Lucas: Plenty of guile to protect his defence but was over-run as Arsenal threatened in the second half and was subbed off with 15 minutes remaining. 7
Emre Can: Looks more comfortable in midfield than the defensive role he found himself in at times last season. Booked. 6.
Roberto Firmino: Some good touches on his first Liverpool start but needs to offer more to justify that hefty fee and did not finish the game after being replaced by Ibe. 7
Philippe Coutinho: Unlucky to twice hit the woodwork and his movement was the main cause of concern for Arsenal's defence throughout the evening. 8.
Christian Benteke: Hustle and bustle as expected from the big Belgian, who will be disappointed not to have tucked away a close-range chance. 7.
Jordon Ibe (for Firmino, 63): Like-for-like replacement and saw little of the ball. 5.
Jordan Rossiter (for Lucas, 75): With Lucas tiring, the youngster was brought on to add fresh legs in midfield. 5.
Alberto Moreno (for Coutinho, 88): Late change to nullify any late Arsenal pressure. 5.
