Arsenal v West Ham - story of the match

Arsenal returned to winning ways with a solid victory over West Ham, with a fifth straight defeat leaving Slaven Bilic's side still in the battle for Premier League survival.

Both sides went into this London derby in dire form but it was the Gunners who addressed that and ultimately ran out comfortable 3-0 victors, recording their first league win since February 11.

After a dull first half, Mesut Ozil marked his 150th Arsenal appearance with a tame opener then laid on the second for Theo Walcott, before Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score the goal of the night.

TWEET OF THE MATCH

"Tiny flicker of happiness tonight, instantly extinguished by Spurs winning at the death. #afc" - Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) sums up the mood of Arsenal fans as north London rivals Tottenham come back from 1-0 down to win 3-1 at Swansea in the dying minutes.

STAR MAN

Granit Xhaka. Although Ozil grabbed the headlines with his 10th goal in all competitions and an assist, Xhaka produced arguably his best performance in an Arsenal shirt since arriving from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer. The Switzerland international had been criticised for his indiscipline for most of the season but controlled the action from midfield with an array of passes and technical skill.

IN WITH THE CROWD

Some Arsenal fans arrived at the Emirates Stadium in the 13th minute, - it is 13 years since their last title success. Meanwhile, West Ham fans sang: "We want you to stay, we want you to stay, Arsene Wenger, we want you to stay."

DATA POINT

Ozil has scored in each of his last three Premier League games against West Ham.
