Former Sunderland skipper Kevin Ball has been appointed the club's new senior professional development coach.
Ball, who has served as Academy manager with responsibility for the Under-18s side, will take over the Black Cats' reserve and Under-21s squads.
His elevation came as Sunderland confirmed the departures of reserve team manager Keith Bertschin and development coach Stephen Clemence, who have left Wearside to join former manager Steve Bruce at Hull.
Ball made almost 400 appearances for the club as a gritty midfield enforcer, and also had a spell as caretaker manager in 2006.
Craig Liddle, who recently joined the staff at the Stadium of Light after accepting temporary charge of the first team at Darlington, will take over as Under-18s coach.
