Bournemouth v Southampton - story of the match

Jay Rodriguez's brace fired Southampton to their first away victory in the Premier League since September in a convincing 3-1 win at Bournemouth.

The 27-year-old's fine double backed up a smart Ryan Bertrand strike as Saints rallied from Nathan Ake's opener to steal the south coast bragging rights.

Rodriguez rejected a loan move when boss Claude Puel joined Saints in the summer, and finally looks to be over the serious knee and foot injuries that have dogged his last two years.

TWEET OF THE MATCH:

"Couldn't be more pleased for @JayRodriguez9 been a long road back and shown great attitude in adversity #turningpoint" - Saints great Matt Le Tissier was delighted with Rodriguez's display.

STAR MAN:

Jay Rodriguez, Southampton. Came alive after his first goal, moving on to produce a blistering volley that decided the tie.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH:

Ryan Bertrand's impressive solo goal stunned Bournemouth after their fine opening, and set the Saints on course to a well-deserved win.

FORTUNATE SON AWARD:

Sofiane Boufal was hugely lucky to get away with what was effectively a tap-tackle on Callum Wilson. The Saints winger swept Wilson's legs away with his hands, only to escape censure from referee Mark Clattenburg. A yellow card shortly afterwards for diving meant the French star was perhaps fortunate to remain on the pitch.
