Cheick Tiote's agent asks for patience before cause of death is announced

Cheick Tiote's agent has asked for patience and respect for the player's bereaved family as the investigations into the cause of his death continue.

Tiote collapsed and died aged 30 during a training session with his club Beijing Enterprises last week.

On Tuesday there was a memorial service held in China, where his former Newcastle team-mate Papiss Cisse led the tributes, with T iote's body now due to be flown back to the Ivory Coast where a private funeral will take place.

The news of Tiote's sudden death sent shock waves around the football world and prompted a tide of tributes, most notably from former managers Steve McClaren and Alan Pardew.

Tiote's agent Emanuele Palladino issued a statement to Press Association Sport requesting consideration for the family as they still await official confirmation of the cause of death of the popular former Anderlecht, FC Twente and Newcastle midfielder.

"There is increasing speculation regarding the circumstances and reasons behind Cheick Tiote's death with many inaccuracies being printed in the press on this subject," Palladino said.

"This has been upsetting for Cheick's family and all parties involved at what is already a difficult time.

"We appreciate Cheick was a much-loved personality. His club Beijing Enterprises are being co-operative at this time and when we have official information surrounding his death we will give a statement on behalf of his family.

"Until then we cannot comment further however we thank you for all your continued support and well wishes."
