Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has signed to Major League Soccer with Canadian outfit Montreal Impact.

Drogba ended weeks of speculation about his future and after being pursued by Chicago for over a month the Ivory Coast national felt a better fit at the Canadian side.

Montreal president Joey Saputo told impactmontreal.com: "It's an honour to welcome Didier Drogba to the Impact.

"From the first conversation I had with him, I felt that he really wanted to play in Montreal. This is one of the biggest days in club history and his arrival to the club will be beneficial in every aspect."

Drogba preciously played at Chelsea from 2004 to 2012, before being re-signed by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in 2014 on a one-year deal.

Didier Drogba is likely to cross paths with other former Premier League players, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard when New York City FC and Los Angeles Galaxy face the Impact.
