Crystal Palace v Burnley - the story of the match

Burnley broke their away-day duck and eased their relegation fears as goals from Ashley Barnes and Andre Gray secured a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Barnes struck after just eight minutes and goalkeeper Tom Heaton kept Palace at bay before substitute Gray hit a late second, to ensure the Clarets finally registered their first success on the road this season.

It was also Burnley's first ever Premier League victory in London - at the 16th attempt - which lifted them above Palace and, crucially, eight points clear of the drop zone.

TWEET OF THE MATCH

"The Clarets secure a crucial first #PL away win of the season and make a major stride towards safety #CRYBUR" - The Premier League's official account @premierleague celebrates Burnley's first win on the road.

STAR MAN Tom Heaton. A fine save denied Christian Benteke in the first half, and a stunning stop kept out a fierce Damien Delaney effort in the second to help secure three crucial points.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH Ashley Barnes' miskick in front of goal could have been embarrassing, but instead it wrong-footed Delaney and allowed Barnes to tuck the ball under Wayne Hennessey for the opening goal.

MOAN OF THE MATCH Burnley defender James Tarkowski was struck by a lighter flung from the home crowd as the Clarets celebrated their goal, souring the evening and tarnishing the reputation of the Palace fans.

DATA POINT Burnley had lost 13 of their previous 15 Premier League visits to London - and drawn the other two. Finally Sean Dyche's men were able to leave the capital with three points.
