Speaking ahead of the international break, Pochettino revealed he had high hopes for Dier's development.
"He has played well in midfield and was comfortable in that position. Eric's skill is he can play in different positions in the pitch," the Argentinian coach said.
"Eric started last season as a full-back and scored in the first two games. He can also play at centre-back, and it is good for him because he is young and he improves a lot. When you play in different positions you add to your game and so gain better t ools to be a better player,"
Tottenham also confirmed a work permit had now been granted for Heung-Min Son, the South Korea international forward, who joined at the end of August from Bayer Leverkusen.
Dier has no doubts he remains at a club with a bright future.
Speaking to Spurs TV, he said: "If you look at the training centre, the young squad, the new stadium coming through - the club is in a great place and as long as we stick together, everything is looking very exciting.
"We have a young team, a core of young English players and young players in general and there is such a great future for the club."
Dier made 36 appearances last season and intends to continue his improvement.
"I believe in myself and my quality, but I didn't really know what to expect and I didn't think I'd play that many games," he added.
"I said at the time I said try my best and see where it took me, and it has taken me here.
"I was really happy with my first season but there is still a lot of work to do, I need to keep improving and I will keep on giving my best."
