Fans are being given the chance to elect their Barclays Premier League Player of the Year after Facebook announced the launch of its own football awards.

Supporters all over the world can vote for various awards including Player and Young Player of the Year, Club of the Year and Manager of the Year, as well as pick an 11-man line-up for the BT Sport Best XI.

Clubs will also provide nominees for the Mirror Football Fan of the Year category which recognises the efforts of the most dedicated fans.

Voting, which is open to anyone with a Facebook account, opened on Friday and will close on May 11.

Facebook Sports Partnerships' Glenn Miller said: "The Facebook Football Awards are the only awards dedicated to celebrating the Premier League, where fans around the globe have the power to decide who deserves to win for their performance over the course of the season."
