David James wants Sven Goran Eriksson to take the reigns at Portsmouth and believes the former England boss can steer the club to Premier League safety.
Eriksson is manager of Mexico but defeat on Wednesday night to the USA in a World cup qualifier has seen his position come under threat.
"Somebody of his calibre would be a tremendous acquisition for us," James said.
"Having a former England manager as manager of Portsmouth I'm sure is something that the fans would never have envisaged."
