Gary Neville slams Liverpool's official twitter account for mocking Manchester United's loss to Watford

By Kevin Palmer

Gary Neville has hit out at Liverpool’s official Twitter account after they poked fun at Manchester United following their shock 3-1 defeat at Watford on Sunday.

United great Neville was not amused as Liverpool’s Twitter feed encouraged a Man Utd fan site to delete a jovial tweet thanking the Reds for beating what they described as ‘one of their title rivals’ in Chelsea on Friday night.

Liverpool’s in-house social media team clearly believed they could have a joke at United expense as they encouraged @UnitedStandMUFC to delete their message following a woeful loss for their team at Vicarage Road.

Liverpool’s Twitter account responded with this simple message soon after United’s miserable display at Watford:

The weekend’s results left Liverpool one point ahead of their old foes United, but Neville suggested the brash tweet from the Anfield club’s official Twitter feed was a little premature with a clash between the two clubs less than a month away.

When a fan suggested Neville would be lapping up the banter if it was the United Twitter feed having fun at Liverpool’s expense, the Sky Sports pundit responded with this snipe:

The countdown to Liverpool v Man Utd at Anfield on October 17th is now on, with this little social media spat adding to the tension ahead of a game that will be crucial to both club’s hopes of mounting a sustained push for the Premier League title.
