Mario Balotelli is set to end his fruitless spell at Liverpool as the Italian international rejoins AC Milan on a season-long loan.

Balotelli joined Liverpool late in the transfer window just 12 months ago with Brendan Rodgers hoping to fill the void left by Luis Suarez but the £16m striker has been a massive disappointment.

Rodgers made it clear that he was an unwanted man at Anfield this season and the 25-year-old was forced to train away from the first-team squad after a debut season which yielded just one goal from 16 Premier League appearances.

It is believed that there is no loan fee between the clubs and that Liverpool will stump up half of his £80,000 a week wage packet.
