Marten de Roon headed a last-gasp equaliser as Middlesbrough snatched a 1-1 draw against Premier League leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Sergio Aguero's 150th City goal just before the interval had looked like earning the hosts another three points but Pep Guardiola's men paid the price for failing to kill off the game.

City had 18 shots to Middlesbrough's none in the first half but their intensity dropped after the break and they were caught out when De Roon headed in Stewart Downing's cross in added time.

TWEET OF THE MATCH

"Boro equalise in the last minute at Man City. Burnley score in the last minute to beat Palace 3-2. We've got our Premier League back." Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) was pleased to see some last-minute drama at the Etihad Stadium.

STAR MAN

Marten de Roon: Middlesbrough showed little ambition for most of the game but defended well and did enough to ensure they remained in with a chance should City slip up. So it proved and De Roon was the hero, popping up in the right place to head a dramatic equaliser.

DATA POINT

There was only really one team in this game in the first half according to the statistics. City enjoyed 78 per cent possession and had 18 shots to Middlesbrough's none. The visitors showed a bit more in the second half but the final possession numbers of 71-29 per cent and 25 shots to five still point to City domination. City were unable to make it fully count though.

SOCIAL MEDIA MOMENT OF THE MATCH

The game was not televised live in the UK but that did not stop a gruesome screen-grab of Victor Valdes' thigh after a collision with Jesus Navas from being posted on social media from elsewhere in the world. Valdes repelled a number of City attacks in the first half and all he had to show for it was a nasty gash courtesy of Navas' studs. He played on after receiving treatment.
