Manchester United to battle Inter over Sneijder switch
Manchester United are set to swoop for Wesley Sneijder in a £30million deal.
The Inter Milan favourite and dazzling star of Holland’s World Cup assault is top of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s shopping list.
Massimo Moratti, the Inter president, confirmed United’s interest in Sneijder.
“The interest from Manchester United in Sneijder is real,” Moratti said. “I'm watching him at the World Cup and I think I'll do the same at Inter next year. We will see what happens. The transfer market will be very different in a few years' time, so we have to start adapting to this situation.”
Inter will sit down with Sneijder once he returns from South Africa with a view to extending his contract, which expires in June 2013, by two years to 2015.
But the Italian giants may decide to cash in on one of the stars of the World Cup.
Ferguson has also inquired about Mario Balotelli, the Italy Under-21 striker and the Dutchman's Inter team-mate.
It remains to be seen if Rafael Benitez, the Inter coach and former Liverpool manager, is willing to do business with Ferguson.
United badly need a midfield schemer with an eye for goal such as Sneijder.
