Northern Ireland star Paddy McNair has been ruled out of Manchester United's Capital One Cup tie against Ipswich with a minor injury.

The 20-year-old was due to start for Louis van Gaal's side this evening but will instead watch from the stands.

It will be a worry for his international boss Michael O'Neill, who is planning to slot McNair into his side for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Greece next month in the place of the suspended Chris Baird, knowing a win will take Northern Ireland to the finals.

Juan Mata, meanwhile, is sure Ipswich will provide his side with a tough test.

Mata wasn't playing when MK Dons knocked United out last season, but knows there is potential for an upset.

"They are an historic team in English football and I'm sure it won't be an easy game," the United playmaker said.

"After that we play against Sunderland, they need the points and they will come to Old Trafford trying to win. We hope to play well and be successful in both games. It would be a joy for everybody."
