Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern intends to build on his solid start with new club Norwich City. Making his debut for the Canaries, the Fermanagh man continued his fine form from the Euro 2016 finals by saving well on several occasions during a 3-0 friendly victory over Coventry City at Carrow Road on Tuesday.

With John Ruddy and Declan Rudd already at the club, McGovern felt it was important to shine on his opening night. He said: "My ambition is to keep playing. I'm happy to be here but I don't just want to make up the numbers - though I understand the competition is very high.

"It was a big game for me and I enjoyed it, I was happy to get a clean sheet and a win. Hopefully there's more to come."

McGovern's international pal Kyle Lafferty also started, playing 45 minutes. His future at Norwich remains up in the air. After the Euros, Lafferty admitted he may have to leave the club, who are intent on signing a new forward to aid their chances of promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
