Northern Ireland starlet Jonny Evans could be set for a summer transfer tug-of-war between two of world football’s greatest superpowers.
The 21-year-old Newtownabbey youngster, who has risen to prominence as a vital cog in Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United machine this season is being tracked by both AC Milan and Real Madrid for around £15m.
Milan want to take his central defensive partnership with Namanja Vidic to Serie A in what is believed to be a proposed £35 million double swoop.
Real Madrid have also been sniffing around and they see Evans as the perfect long-term replacement for Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro.
Evans has come up through the ranks at Old Trafford and after turning down an approach from Roy Keane, while he was Sunderland manager, to join the Black Cats, the classy defender has gone on to become a key figure in United’s race for major silverware.
