Obertan ready for step up for United

Gabriel Obertan might shy away from comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo — but he is pretty keen on the Portuguese superstar's stepover routine.

With Ronaldo now at Real Madrid, Manchester United fans are looking for a new hero to cheer.

After a delayed start to his Old Trafford career following a cut-price £3million summer move from Bordeaux, Obertan is now showing the Red Devils faithful the skills that made him one of Europe's most sought-after young players before his career was halted by injury.

The 20-year-old went on a few runs after making his first Premier League start against Wolves. And don't be surprised if the stepover routine Ronaldo carried out so mesmerically returns to the United menu.

“I learned to play football in the street with my friends,” Obertan said.

“And when you play street football, the things you want to do are all the tricks, like nutmegs. My favourite is probably the stepover.”
