Panathinaikos are closing in on the signing of Djibril Cisse, according to club president Nikolas Pateras.
Cisse spent last season on loan at Sunderland but the Barclays Premier League club did not take up their option to buy the Marseille striker.
Reports last night suggested the 27-year-old was on the verge of signing a four-year deal with the Greek side and Pateras confirmed they have agreed a sum with the Ligue 1 club, thought to be around eight million euros.
"It's a year that we've been interested in Djibril Cisse," he told Le 10 Sport. "There's nothing left but for him to sign.
"We reached an agreement with Marseille, the player is coming with his wife and will stay two to three days in Greece and, if everything goes well, he will be a Panathinaikos player."
Cisse, who also spent three seasons at Liverpool, had expressed his desire to remain in England and was linked with a move to Tottenham or Stoke.
