Ronald Koeman admits Southampton are striker light

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman admits he may have to dip into the transfer market for a striker if his current frontmen remain unfit.

Koeman is currently without Graziano Pelle and Jay Rodriguez through injury, although both are expected to be back in action in the near future.

Pelle has been missing since Christmas with a knee injury and will also sit out this weekend's trip to Norwich, while Rodriguez is due back in late January after foot surgery.

But Koeman is weighing up his attacking options with the January transfer window due to open on Saturday.

When asked whether he was about to dip into the transfer market, Koeman said at his pre-match press conference: "At the moment, no.

"Like I mentioned before, if we need to sign a player, it needs to be a striker.

"But that also depends on the situation of Jay and what will happen with Graziano. It's too early to make conclusions about that.

"We still have to wait to see how they recover and how long it takes, and then we'll make a decision about what we have to do."

Shane Long is set to lead the line again for Saints at Carrow Road.
