Ronaldo targets player of the year double

Cristiano Ronaldo has already set his sights on being named the best player in the world again next year.

The Manchester United winger was crowned FIFA’s world player of 2008 in Zurich on Monday and insisted afterwards his ambition would remain undimmed despite the award completing a clean sweep of football’s honours for the 23-year-old.

Ronaldo said: "This is a prize that has always been an ambition of mine ever since I started playing football.

"But when I started at Sporting Lisbon six years ago I never imagined it would come so quickly.

"But this is not the end - I want to be back next year to win it again.

"It is my ambition that has brought me here and I will remain ambitious and aim to keep progressing."
