Scudamore makes Premier pledge

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has insisted he does not want the competition to overshadow domestic leagues in other parts of the world.

Scudamore was speaking on a visit to South Africa where there have been complaints that fans are more focused on what is happening in the English top flight compared to local teams.

He told BBC Sport: "We have no desire to be of more interest than local leagues, that's not our strategy, that's not what we want to do.

"In fact we would be more than happy to see local leagues be the league of choice with us being an interested second and that applies anywhere in the world other than in the UK."

Scudamore also told media in South Africa that Manchester United's struggles this season had diminished audiences in some parts of the world as they are the most popular club.
