Steven Davis to miss Southampton v Newcastle due to ankle injury, confirms Ronald Koeman
The Northern Ireland captain could be out for a couple of weeks
Steven Davis could be out of action for two or three weeks with an ankle injury, Southampton boss has confirmed.
Davis picked up an ankle injury in last Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Leicester City.
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman said the midfielder's absence will be a loss as they take on Newcastle on Saturday at St Mary's Stadium - but that they have good options to replace him.
He said: "He will be out for two or three weeks and I don't know if he is available for next weekend. I hope that he will be for next weekend but we have to wait.
"Normally he starts and he is one of the key players in the team but we have very good replacements for his postition."
The Northern Ireland captain has had 150 appearances for Southampton.
He will lead Northern Ireland through their Euro 2016 campaign which is just weeks away.
