Stone me, Rafa! Keane delivers

While Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was on Merseyside recovering from an operation on his troublesome kidney stones, his under pressure striker, Robbie Keane, was in north London keeping his side’s title challenge in good health.

Robin van Persie had fired Arsenal ahead at the Emirates Stadium with a fine strike on 24 minutes, but the Republic of Ireland hitman equalised ahead of the interval.

Arsenal remain eight points off the leaders and stay in fifth place.

Liverpool asssistant boss Sammy Lee said: "Our lads deserve credit as well. After going a goal down we felt we took control of the game and got

back into it," he said. "To come to a place like Arsenal and get a point you would have been happy before, but we always go out to win the game so we are a little bit disappointed."

Arsenal's frustrations were made worse by the loss of captain Cesc Fabregas with a knee injury which could keep him out of the festive programme.
