Toon want fair price for Debuchy

Newcastle will not sell full-back Mathieu Debuchy on the cheap amid claims he is close to a move to Arsenal.

A report in France of Monday suggested the 28-year-old France defender, who is currently on World Cup duty in Brazil, will be heading for the Emirates Stadium this summer having also been linked with Paris St Germain and Monaco.

However, the news came as a surprise to sources at the Tyneside club, who told Press Association Sport the claims were at best premature.

Debuchy, a £5.5million signing from Lille in January 2013, impressed last season in what proved a difficult campaign for the Magpies, but has made a series of equivocal comments over his future during the summer.

Newcastle have no desire to lose the player, but having eventually agreed to sell his good friend Yohan Cabaye to PSG in January for around £19million, they are bracing themselves for an approach this summer.

Indeed, reports in the north east have suggested they have placed a £12million price tag on a man who has four years remaining on his contract.
