Tottenham Hotspur have made an opening bid of £6.9m for Christian Eriksen, according to respected Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
The Danish 21-year-old has long been coveted by a host of Premier League clubs but as Spurs look to rebuild with the imminent departure of Gareth Bale, Andre Villas-Boas' side have firmed up their interest.
It's thought that it will take a bid closer to £12m to convince Ajax to sell the midfielder - however, with just one-year remaining on Eriksen's contract, the Dutch club could agree to a compromise.
After breaking into the Ajax team at just 18, Eriksen has been a consistent performer, contributing nine goals in Eredivisie last season as well as netting against Manchester City in his side's 3-1 win over the Premier League club in last season's Champions League group stages.
Eriksen is seen as an ideal alternative to Willian, who opted to sign for Chelsea despite having been on the verge of a move to White Hart Lane.
