Twitter reaction to Ryan Giggs' departure from Manchester United
Ryan Giggs is ending his 29-year association with Manchester United as he seeks to become a manager.
Here, Press Association Sport looks at some of the reaction to confirmation of the Welshman's departure.
Sir Alex Ferguson, who handed Giggs his debut in 1991 before the pair won 13 Premier League titles together, was quoted on United's official Twitter account, with the club tweeting: " Sir Alex on Giggsy: 'His place in history is assured. I doubt we'll ever see a career like his again.' #GiggsLegend"
Midfielder Michael Carrick spent eight years as a team-mate of Giggs and posted a picture on Twitter of the pair following May's FA Cup triumph, alongside the message: "Gonna miss this fella. All great things come to an end I suppose He's gonna make a top manager Good luck mate."
United and Spain goalkeeper David De Gea quoted a famous Giggs song with his own tribute, posting: " Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, Running down the wing... #GiggsLegend"
England internationals Ashley Young and Phil Jones both played alongside Giggs, and posted their own praise.
Young said: "Mr @ManUtd What a career! A fantastic leader, example & inspiration for young players. A true legend! #GiggsLegend"
Jones wrote: "To play alongside him & to play for him is something I'll never forget. Thanks Giggsy, All the best mate. @ManUtd"
