Warnock still confident on new buys
QPR manager Neil Warnock insists new blood will be arriving at Loftus Road this summer despite seeing a number of targets slip out of their grasp.
Warnock, who is said to have a £15million kitty at his disposal, has yet to secure his first signing for the npower Championship winners. Free agent Jay Bothroyd and Hull's Jimmy Bullard have been mooted as potential targets, while reports on Thursday suggested that Blackpool striker DJ Campbell was the subject of a £1.25million bid from QPR.
"We have targeted a number of players during the last few weeks and although we have missed out on some, the board are continuing to work hard to assist me in bringing new additions to the football club,'' Warnock told his club's official website. "I am confident that we will have a few new players on board in the next couple of weeks."
Warnock has also refuted reports that he is ready to leave the club following comments made by Peterborough director of football Barry Fry.
QPR reportedly met with potential target Craig Mackail-Smith recently but the striker turned down a move as he did not receive assurances that Warnock would be at the helm come the start of the season, according to Fry.
The comments led to rife speculation that the former Sheffield United boss had quit the newly-promoted side, with sources citing disagreements with major shareholder Flavio Briatore.
Warnock, though, dispelled such suggestions, saying: "With regards to my own position, I am really excited about the challenge that lies ahead next season and I can't wait for pre-season training next week."
The 62-year-old's sentiments were echoed by an official statement from QPR, which denied reports that Warnock had quit.
"The club is aware of rumours circulating with regards to the future of QPR manager Neil Warnock," it read. "The club would like to make it clear that Neil Warnock has not resigned from his post and is continuing to work hard behind-the-scenes ahead of the R's return to pre-season training next week.
"We would once again advise QPR supporters to ignore idle speculation and reiterate that news is only official once it appears via our communication channels."
