West Brom 'considering fresh bid for Leicester defender Jeff Schlupp'

West Brom are considering making a second bid for Leicester defender Jeff Schlupp.

The Baggies have not given up hope of signing the Ghana international despite having a £9million bid rejected by the Foxes, Press Association Sport understands.

Boss Tony Pulis wants to strengthen his options in wide areas at The Hawthorns and is searching for a recognised left-back. Jonny Evans finished the season in that position after Chris Brunt suffered a serious knee injury.

Leicester head into their first ever Champions League campaign with boss Claudio Ranieri reluctant to see his title-winning squad fall apart having already lost midfielder N'Golo Kante to Chelsea.

Finances are not a problem for the Baggies and a move would depend heavily on whether 23-year-old Schlupp, who can also play in midfield, would be happier as a squad player with the champions or playing regular football at The Hawthorns.

Schlupp, who scored in Leicester's 2-1 pre-season win at Oxford on Tuesday, made 26 appearances for the Foxes last season but made just two starts after he suffered a hamstring injury in December, having lost his spot to Christian Fuchs.

Meanwhile, a bid of £20million from Stoke - £17million up front with £3million in add-ons - remains on the table for striker Saido Berahino.

The Baggies will not let Berahino leave until a replacement is found with West Ham's Diafra Sakho a target and the Hammers, like Albion, want reinforcements before sanctioning any move.

Manchester United striker James Wilson remains a possibility but any move would likely come towards the end of the window, should he still be available.
