West Brom have agreed a deal worth up to £8million for Hull defender James Chester.

The 26-year-old is due at the club for a medical on Tuesday afternoon with terms agreed to move to The Hawthorns.

He is expected to tie up the switch within the next 24 hours after leaving Hull's training camp in Austria as Tony Pulis' recruitment drive gathers pace.

Press Association Sport understands the transfer is worth up to £8million should all the clauses in the deal be triggered while Chester is an Albion player.

West Brom have also dismissed speculation linking Saido Berahino with a move to Tottenham. Reports claimed Spurs were lining up a bid for the England Under-21 international but West Brom insisted they have received no offer.

The club tweeted: "Ok, this is getting silly now. So let us make it clear. There has been NO bid for Saido. That's it. Carry on everyone."

West Brom want to tie Berahino, who scored 20 goals last season, down to a new contract with Pulis focused on bringing players in rather than selling.

Chester will be the latest arrival, with the former Manchester United defender out of contract at the KC Stadium next year and the Tigers cashing in following relegation from the Barclays Premier League.

He made 171 appearances for Hull - scoring eight goals - after signing from Old Trafford in 2011 and is set to become part of Pulis' revolution at West Brom.

Pulis has already signed Wigan winger James McClean and remains keen on Nottingham Forest's Michail Antonio, despite having a £5million bid turned down, QPR's Matt Phillips and Arsenal's Serge Gnabry.

The club have held talks with Bakary Sako after the former Wolves winger lowered his wage demands having failed to find a club since leaving Molineux at the end of last season.

But Abou Diaby has rejected a move to the Baggies and is set to join Marseille on a free transfer.

The former Arsenal midfielder had a medical at The Hawthorns ahead of a proposed move but while Albion are believed to have offered him a more attractive package he has opted to return to France.

Marseille announced on Tuesday evening that they had agreed a deal in principle with 29-year-old Diaby, who was released by the Gunners when his contract expired this summer.
