West Ham sign Upson in £7.5m deal

Published 01/02/2007

Matthew Upson has moved from Birmingham to West Ham in the biggest money move ahead of yesterday's January transfer deadline.

The player made the switch for £7.5m.

Elsewhere, Javier Mascherano's move from the Hammers to Liverpool still needed Premier League approval last night, but the Reds did wrap up deals for Deportivo La Coruna defender Alvaro Arbeloa and Malaga's Francisco Manuel Duran.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, signed Celtic midfielder Shaun Maloney in a £1m deal, while Birmingham completed a move for UCD duo Gary Dicker and Pat Kavanagh.
