West Ham v Middlesbrough - Story of the match

Dimitri Payet scored a stunning equaliser

Dimitri Payet lit up the London Stadium with a stunning solo goal as West Ham ended their miserable run with a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough.

The France star beat five Boro players before slotting the ball home to cancel out Cristhian Stuani's header and rescue a point for the Hammers after four straight Premier League defeats.

TWEET OF THE MATCH "If you don't catch Payet's goal on MOTD you are missing out. One of those where I ignored etiquette and had to applaud from the press box" West Ham's leveller got Guardian journalist Amy Lawrence out of her seat.

STAR MAN Dimitri Payet was, as usual, the best player on the pitch by a country mile. But even by his standards, the France star's goal to draw his side level was something very special.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH No contest. In the 57th minute Payet turned Antonio Barragan on the wing, breezed past Marten de Roon on the edge of the area and skipped away from Calum Chambers and Ben Gibson before leaving George Friend on his backside as he slotted the ball home for a truly world-class goal.

MOAN OF THE MATCH The move from Upton Park to the Olympic Stadium is still not sitting well with some West Ham fans, as a section sang 'we should have stayed at the Boleyn' and 'Stratford's a s***hole, we want to go home'.
