West Brom defender Jonas Olsson is hoping striker Peter Odemwingie's weekend hat-trick against Wolves will kick his season into top gear.

Odemwingie netted 15 times in his debut season and played a major role in the Baggies surviving in the Barclays Premier League. But he had struggled with injuries and a loss of form during the current campaign until his treble against Wolves which sealed the fate of manager Mick McCarthy.

Olsson said: "I know how frustrating it is for a striker when he is struggling a bit with scoring goals. Everyone knows Peter has got it in him. It was great for him to get the hat-trick and maybe he will kick on now and keep scoring."

He added: "When he is on form, he is one of the best strikers in the league. Scoring 15 goals for us last season was fantastic.

"It is one thing doing that for a Manchester United or an Arsenal but scoring 15 goals for West Brom is a top performance."

Olsson is full of praise for the way the Nigeria international has fought his way back to form.

He said: "Peter is a good pro, a nice guy. He has kept working hard and I'm very happy for him things have come right.

"I think he is emotional in the way he is devoted to his work and really professional in all that he does.

"When you are struggling, he is one of those guys who takes it very seriously. He has kept working hard and got his rewards at Molineux."

Billy on the Box: DD’s big pair puts on blue show in Bavaria

What an epic battle the Champions League Final turned out to be. A clash between an organisation with a long and distinguished history, respected by friend and foe alike up against a relative newcomer, the plaything of a foreign oligarch, who is universally viewed with raised eyebrows.
