Spurs eye Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers as Harry Redknapp's replacement

Brendan Rodgers will be at the top of Spurs’ managerial wish-list when Harry Redknapp quits White Hart Lane for the England job.

Swansea City are bracing themselves for a call from Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy who is a huge admirer of the Ulsterman and the style of play he has brought to the newly-promoted Swans.

Spurs know they are going to lose Redknapp and are already searching for a successor to their current manager, who will fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Fabio Capello.

The Italian sensationally quit as England boss after the FA stripped John Terry of the captaincy without consulting him.

Everton boss David Moyes also has his admirers at White Hart Lane but 39-year-old Rodgers is now the front-runner after guiding Swansea into the Premier League and consolidating their place in the top flight.

Rodgers’ football philosophy, which echoes that of European Champions Barcelona, has won him many plaudits since the start of the season.

And he has just been handed a new three-and-a-half-year deal - which is a sure sign that Swansea are well aware that he’s a wanted man.

Rodgers said last night that he wasn’t thinking of any other job - which is roughly the same as what Redknapp said about the England vacancy yesterday afternoon. So watch|this |space.

What an epic battle the Champions League Final turned out to be. A clash between an organisation with a long and distinguished history, respected by friend and foe alike up against a relative newcomer, the plaything of a foreign oligarch, who is universally viewed with raised eyebrows.
