The Republic of Ireland Women were outclassed as Spain maintained their 100 per cent record in Euro 2017 qualification with a 3-0 victory in Madrid.

Ireland goalkeeper Emma Byrne saved Veronica Boquete's penalty in the second minute but Boquete got her revenge, scoring twice in the second half to give her side a commanding lead.

The visitors tried to pull themselves back into the contest but the result was put beyond doubt when Jennifer Hermoso added a third late on.

Victory means Spain sit top of Group Two, having won all six of their matches so far, while Ireland remain third with six points.

All eight group winners go through to next summer's finals in Holland and seven runners-up will also qualify.
