Rangers have been dealt a double blow with the news that Maurice Edu and Kevin Thomson are both set to miss the start of the new season.

Edu has had a successful operation after sustaining knee ligament damage against Dundee United, which resulted in the United States international missing last week’s Scottish Cup win.

The midfielder is expected to be sidelined for at least three months, meaning he will also miss important World Cup qualifiers.

Thomson is also likely to be out of action when the new campaign gets under way. He missed most of the season with a cruciate injury and may have to wait until September to make his comeback.
