Northern Ireland striker Billy McKay makes deadline day switch

By Simon Peach

Billy McKay has returned to Inverness Caley Thistle on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international was on loan at Oldham from Wigan but his deal was cut short, enabling Inverness boss Richie Foran to get the striker back to the club.

McKay, who scored 64 goals in 141 games for Caley in his first spell in the Highlands, has played 33 times for Oldham in all competitions this season, scoring four goals.

He has made just nine appearances for Wigan Athletic, eight as substitute. His last appearance was in August 2015.

He spent the rest of last season on loan at Dundee United, where he scored 13 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions.

The move is subject to international clearance.

Meanwhile, Watford have sold Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo to Chinese Super League side Changchun Yatai for £20m.

Late last night Aston Villa signed Scott Hogan from Brentford for a fee of around £12m.

Jordan Rhodes has moved from Middlesbrough to Sheffield Wednesday for £10m.

Two-times capped Northern Ireland international Alex Bruce said an emotional goodbye to Hull City after he was sent on loan to Wigan Athletic.

"They have been the best and most successful years of my career," Bruce said.

"The last six months have been frustrating after my Achilles operation but I'm fit now and need to play games.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of keeping Wigan in the Championship and I'm grateful for the chance they've given me.

"I cannot wait to get started," he added.

Antrim-born Republic of Ireland international Marc Wilson's loan move to West Brom from Bournemouth was rubber stamped.

The defender played under Tony Pulis at Stoke between 2010 and 2013.

Burnley broke their transfer record to recruit Robbie Brady from Norwich.

The Republic international signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor for an undisclosed fee.

But the Clarets confirmed the sum eclipsed the £10.5million they paid Derby for Jeff Hendrick last summer.

Crystal Palace have agreed to sign defender Mamadou Sakho on loan from Liverpool for the rest of the season.
