Premier tests perfect forRangers captain Weir

Published 29/07/2009

Rangers captain David Weir believes the club have devised the perfect pre-season programme for what is set to be a busy campaign.

The Light Blues began their tour of Germany last night with a friendly against SC Wiedenbruck before stepping up the intensity in this weekend's Emirates Cup with matches against Paris St Germain and Arsenal.

They then play Premier League sides Manchester City and Portsmouth before the Scottish Premier League season kicks off.

Weir believes such opposition will be ideal ahead of Rangers' Champions League campaign.

Weir said: “There is no doubt these games will be tough but that is what you want ahead of the new season.

“You need to push yourself at this stage and playing the likes of Arsenal will give us an indication of what we can expect in the Champions League this season.”
